The company aims to continue reducing costs through a suspension scheme with a salary reduction agreed upon between Acindar and the UOM. Suspended workers will receive 80% of their February salary, 78% in March, and 75% from April to December 2025. According to what was agreed in a hearing at the Ministry of Labor, it is estimated that approximately 200 workers will be suspended in the first week.
The agreement between Acindar and the UOM aims to avoid layoffs amidst the sharp decline in production. This cost reduction scheme began with a record of voluntary retirements, which 200 employees took advantage of, but it is considered necessary to implement additional measures.
The agreement affects 970 workers and will be applied in batches. The company also plans to terminate the contracts of 200 precarious workers under contractor status. The measure will impact the steel mill located in Villa Constitución, in the southern Santa Fe region, employing workers from throughout the area up to San Nicolás. It was reported that the suspensions will begin in February and will extend until the end of the year.
UOM leaders have highlighted the delicacy of the scenario, related to a cost reduction program adopted by the company due to the collapse of activity caused by the drop in demand. This will temporarily allow for avoiding layoffs and managing the suspensions of affected workers in a staggered manner.
